Australia Squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 revealed: Cricket Australia has been announced the squad of 18 members for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The captaincy of the team will remain in the hands of Pat Cummins. There will be a maximum of 15 players in a team squad for the World Cup. According to Cricket Australia, out of these 18 players only 15 players will be selected for the team and the rest of them will be kept in reserve. All rounder Aaron Hardy and the spinner Tanveer Sangha, fast bowler Hazlewood, David Warner have found place in the 18-member preliminary squad for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup that will happen in India from October 5 – November 19. The team has included four all-rounders named as Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott.
Australia’s first match in the ODI World Cup will be against host India in Chennai on 8 October. Australia team has to play ODI series against South Africa and then against India before the World Cup started. Cricket Australia has been confirmed that the same squad will also play in the series against both South Africa and India. Australia tour of South Africa will begin from August 30. A three-match T20I series and then a five-match ODI series will be played on Australia tour of South Africa. The ODI matches against South Africa will be played from September 7 to September 17. After this series, 15 players will be shortlisted, who will go for Australia tour of India. Where the Australian team will play a three-match ODI series against India from September 22 to September 27. India vs Australia ODI series will be played in Mohali, Indore and Rajkot.
Hazlewood, Maxwell and Cummins returned but Marnus Labushen being Out of the Squad
Pat Cummins will be seen captaining the Australian team in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. This year Australia played the last ODI against India in March but the Cummins were not played on this Indian tour. Cummins will join the team in the ODI series played against South Africa. Apart from this the fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has also made a comeback to the squad player list. Glenn Maxwell will not play on South African tour but he will join the team from India vs Australia ODI series 2023.
The most shocking decision has been taken for Australian player – Marnus Labushen. As the Labushen could not be a part of Australian team for this World Cup tournament. Labushen has a great average in Tests series but not performed well in ODIs. So far in 30 ODIs, he has scored of 847 runs at an average of 31.37. These includes only one century and six half-centuries.
Australia Team’s vice-captain is not selected
Important thing to see is that the Cricket Australia has not selected any vice-captain. November last year, Josh Hazlewood was the vice-captain of Australia team in the ODI series played against England. While in March this year, Steve Smith was the captain in the absence of both Cummins and Hazlewood.
